If your company has a delivery option, you are going to be paying a great deal of money in order to deliver your products directly to the home of the customer, or you are going to need to charge your customers more money in order to help cover the shipping costs. One awesome compromise that your company can make in order to reduce delivery costs but still get the customers the items that they need is to organize in-store pickup options. Customers can order an item and choose to have it delivered to your store, rather than to their home, allowing you to reduce the amount of money that you will have to pay in shipping. They can then pick it up at a later date. Here are some tips for getting your store ready to handle in-store pickup services.

1. Set Aside an Area or a Smaller Stockroom to Hold In-Store Pickup Items

First, you need to make sure that you have a special area set aside for the items that people have ordered to have delivered to the store. This will allow you to keep these items separate and make it easier for you to find them when the customer comes to the store to pick up the item.

2. Organize the Items By Last Name

Next, you will want to choose an organizational method. This organizational method needs to be flexible. One easy way to organize the packages that you have been receiving for customer pickup is to organize them by the last name of the customer who ordered them. Doing so makes it relatively simple to find the item when the customer comes to pick it up. If your stock room consists of primarily shelves, you want to be sure that you have signs that are easy to move around that label the last names of the customers that the shelf contains. Consider installing whiteboards on the sides of each of the shelves in order to allow employees to update that a shelf contains items that belong to customers with last names starting with A through F.

If a person with a last name that starts with the letter B orders fifteen items to your store for pickup, you might need to reorganize the shelves and make the top shelf simply contains items belonging to customers with last name starting with A-C, rather than A-F. Having whiteboards installed makes it easier for you to make these changes and keep the stockroom organized.
